Dr. Ron Brown grew up in Washington, DC and Silver Spring Maryland. He completed three years at the University of Maryland. He graduated Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Dr. Brown was stationed for two years at Ft. Huachuca in AZ as a US army dental officer. On returning to the DC Metro area, Dr. Brown practiced general dentistry in Northern VA and DC for 12 years. Through the mentorship of Dr. Bill Bottomley, he enrolled in a graduate pharmacology program and an oral medicine residency program, graduating with an MS. He went on to medical and dental faculty positions in Houston TX and the DC Metro area. In 2019, he retired as an Emeritus Professor from Howard University College of Dentistry, and still maintains his oral medicine private practice and his associations with Georgetown University Medical Center and the NIH. Dr. Brown is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM) and a past president of both the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the ABOM.

His grandfather, Peter Hidnert, PhD dropped out of NYU School of Dentistry in 1918 during the Spanish flu epidemic when he discovered that he fainted at the sight of blood. Dr. Hidnert was one of the first persons hired by Dr. Wilmer Souder at the establishment of what is now the Paffenbarger Institute of the National Bureau of Standards and Technology, retiring in 1959. Dr. Brown was stationed for two years at Ft. Huachuca in AZ as a US army dental officer. On returning to the DC Metro area, he practiced general dentistry in Northern VA and DC for 12 years and retired due to neck arthritis. Through the mentorship of Dr. Bill Bottomley, he enrolled in a graduate pharmacology program and an oral medicine residency program, graduating with an MS in 1988. He went on to medical and dental faculty positions in Houston TX and the DC Metro area. In 2019, he retired as an Emeritus Professor from Howard University College of Dentistry, and still maintains his oral medicine private practice and his associations with Georgetown University Medical Center and the NIH.
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM) and a past president of both the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the ABOM. He has provided over 150 continuing dental and medical presentations nationally and internationally. His topics include pharmacology, immunology, and the diagnosis and treatment of oral lesions, and oral neurologic disorders. He has published over 150 journal articles and is the co-author of four dental texts/monographs. For the last 15 years, he has been continuously listed as one of the top 100 CDE providers by Dentistry Today.
